Treatment equipment

CARBON

Activated carbon adsorption — Conventional VOC adsorption, downstream polishing or backup protection under suitable operating conditions.

CARBON

Applicable conditions

  • Relatively dry, low-concentration VOC streams
  • Intermittent emissions
  • Downstream polishing
  • Backup treatment for existing systems

Operating limits

Humidity, oil mist, dust and competitive adsorption can shorten service life. Assess pressure drop, outlet monitoring, media replacement and waste disposal costs together.

System combinations

Usually installed after adequate mist removal and pretreatment. It does not replace assessment of sources, capture systems and pollutant composition.

PROCESS & OPERATION

From adsorption capacity to a manageable service cycle.

ACU activated-carbon units use porous media to capture suitable compounds. Contact conditions, inlet pretreatment, temperature, pressure drop and spent-media maintenance are considered together.

  1. 01

    Condition the inlet

Select pretreatment for particles, oil mist and humidity.

  2. 02

    Adsorb compounds

Choose carbon type, loading, bed depth and contact time for the compounds.

  3. 03

    Monitor operation

Track pressure drop, temperature and inlet/outlet readings for faults or breakthrough.

  4. 04

    Replace and service

Replace media based on monitoring and arrange appropriate spent-carbon handling.

Suitable conditions

Evaluate low-concentration, relatively dry or intermittent streams; adsorption behavior varies by compound.

Operating boundaries

Humidity, oil mist, particles and competitive adsorption can shorten service intervals.

Lifecycle costs

Assess media, electricity, replacement labor and spent-carbon disposal alongside initial investment.
